Wow!! Two posts in the same month! I must have time on my hands. But no, not really. We finally got over whatever this virus was (not the flu and not Covid – thank goodness) but it did lay us out flat for a couple of weeks. And of course it had to take its time reaching everyone in the family on its way so as to be as disruptive to our plans as possible.
Now, here’s the good news!
We’re back at the kitchen and we’re doing our Big Clean.
Next up is our year end Inventory and then we can really get going again!!
We’ve ordered all the pink and red sprinkles we could find, and the heart shaped ones too. We’ve topped up our supply of red food colouring and we’ve dusted off the heart shaped cookie cutters so it’s “all hearts on deck” for the next couple of weeks, starting with the Boat Show this weekend.
This year we have added CAKE to our Valentine offerings, along with adorable Valentine desserts for romantic dinners, Galentine’s, family celebrations, lunch box treats, classroom parties or just because you want a treat!! It’s always nice to get to February and treat yourself for surviving January.
,Our January was actually pretty good aside from being sick for most of it, especially when you factor in the new puppy!! January was filled with Puppy Love and we even designed a Valentine cookie set called Puppy Love to welcome our furry family member. Check it out on the website now and next week in the store. The website goes live for ordering on January 31. Order for pick up February 10, 11, 13 or 14 (we’re closed on the 12th – that’s a Sunday). We’ll be open on February 13 even though it is a Monday so you can shop for your Sweetheart. Also, on Monday, February 13 – there’ll be cake! It’s Duncan’s birthday so stop in to wish him a Happy Birthday and have a piece of cake.
We are scheduled to be at the Boat Show this weekend, so we’ll see some of you there and we’ll have cookies to start your February off on the right foot.
While we were taking our break, we had some time to reflect on how things went over Christmas and over this past year and we have to say that the number of sales were up over last year (Yay! Thank you), but income was actually down. And we have to admit, it’s because of the rising cost of everything that goes into our cookies from the butter to the flour to the eggs to the sugar, to delivery costs and on and on. So, it is with great reluctance that we are going to be raising the price of a dozen cookies starting in February to $18.99/dozen.
We won’t be raising the price of our packaged cookies at this point. We hope you’ll understand and that you will continue to see the value in our handmade, all natural, organic, local product and continue to support our local, family business.
When Lorraine’s grandfather landed in Halifax in 1905, he knew this was going to be a great place to live. He worked hard, saved up, and sent for more family members until all his brothers and sisters were here. His cousins, ahem, went to Philadelphia, but Nonno Josie was smart and knew this was the place to start a business and raise a family and to prosper. Today, his descendants call many parts of Canada home, but Halifax is where it all began and we are so glad to be running our business here, in the place Lorraine’s Nonno chose for the family.
See you at the Shortbread Shop!!
We open again on Tuesday, February 7.
