At Sable Shortbread, June is more than just the start of summer. It’s a homecoming.

Our roots run deep into the sun-soaked soil of Abruzzo, where Josie—Lorraine’s grandfather—was born. He came to Canada as a young man, bringing with him a work ethic honed in the family trade of shoemaking and tailoring, and a fierce devotion to food, family, and tradition. He didn’t just bring a bride in 1919—he brought the flavours and rituals of home.

This month, we’re honouring that heritage with Italian-inspired shortbread, savoury market specials, and sweet tributes to the tables that raised us.

What’s Coming to the Table

We couldn’t pick just one flavour to define Italian Month—so we didn’t.

Instead, we’re showcasing a whole flight of Italian-inspired shortbread, each one handcrafted to celebrate tradition, memory, and mangia moments.

Here’s what’s on the menu:

  • Affogato – Espresso shortbread meets vanilla buttercream in this ode to the iconic Italian dessert. Bold, mellow, and perfect with your morning cappuccino.

  • Cucidati-Inspired Fig Shortbread – Our twist on the Sicilian classic: shortbread loaded with figs, walnuts, and candied orange. Pure nostalgia.

  • Orgeat Almond – Subtle, fragrant, and just sweet enough. An almond shortbread inspired by the almond-syrup cordial served in every good Italian café.

  • Pistachio Cream – Delicate and rich, like a Sicilian pastry case in cookie form.

  • Frutti di Bosco – Sweet berries in all their glory, baked into a fruit-forward shortbread bursting with fruity energy.

  • Tortoni – Our limited edition, in-store-only flavour has landed … and it’s molto speciale.   Inspired by a classic Italian dessert and lovingly reimagined as a cookie, it combines almonds, cherries and amaretti cookies in a cookie!

Our savoury June menu leans into the Italian street food spirit—rustic, picnic-ready, and made for warm days under shady trees.
Expect house-made pizza, juicy meatballs, and bites that taste like Nonna’s backyard garden.
