This year’s September break plan was to do a deep clean, get our fall wholesale orders baked and shipped and get a head start on our show season planning and dough making. However, it has been a bit overshadowed by the upcoming storm, some health issues and big changes to come for Sable Shortbread.
The Windsor Garlic Festival has been rescheduled from this Saturday to next Saturday, September 23. Weather permitting we will be at Seaport Farmers Market on Sunday, Sep 17
Speaking of markets and weather here is our schedule through next weekend:
Monday/Tuesday there will be a TV film crew at the store so we will be closed.
We are going to try to have the store open on Thurs/Fri next week from 11 am to 4 pm.
You are probably aware of the business closures that have been happening in downtown Kentville and we are working hard to stay open. At the same time, it has become clear that there is just not enough local traffic to sustain specialty businesses such as ours. We have to go further afield to make sure we earn enough revenue and continue to grow our business so it supports our family and remains there for you, our loyal customers.
This means travelling to markets and craft fairs and serving more wholesale accounts. All of which requires dedicated time to meet these customers’ needs. As a result, the retail store will have to be closed more often.
Our daily customers are very important to us and we want to be there to serve you when you visit but the reality is, we can’t do it all. So, we’ve made a four part plan:
Our Online Shopping Platform; Pop Up Openings;
Weekend Markets; and expanded Wholesale business.
Staffing shortages are still very real and we do not know when or if we will be fully staffed again. Finding staff, keeping staff and having enough revenue to make sure we pay staff members a fair wage are all factors that go into staffing decisions and challenges. This labour shortage is making it difficult for us to get all our baking done and still have the store open for walk-in business.
Online Shopping
We will be updating our online store regularly to keep you up to date on what is available and we will have regular order pick up times so you can order online and pick up at the store during the week.
We encourage you to go to the website and place orders for your Thanksgiving treats now so we can order ingredients and be ready to do all the baking
Pop-Ups
Our Kentville bakeshop will “Pop Up” several times between now and Thanksgiving for in-person shopping.
We will give you a few days notice of when Pop Ups will occur so you can plan your trip to the shop.
We are planning Pop Ups at our shop in Kentville and at some of our favourite retailers as well, so make sure you are following us on Facebook and Instagram so you see where we’re headed next
We will be open for full-service shopping during December for all your Christmas shopping.
Markets
Weekends we will be attending farmers markets and craft fairs. The holiday show season starts the weekend after Thanksgiving and we are booked to do shows every weekend until the middle of December.
