In the last couple of posts, I had such a good time playing with the words to songs to adapt them to our shortbread theme, I couldn’t resist one more as the summer draws to a close. This one is an old camp song well loved at Girl Guide camp and I am sure many other camps over the years. I think it’s one you’ll all recognize. And who doesn’t want to hum along to an old camp song, am I right? Well, let’s get this party started…after all I now live in the land of kitchen parties — Duncan already plays the fiddle so we’re well on our way to fitting in (I hope).

Oh, they’ll be comin’ out of the oven when they’re baked (ooh hot)

They’ll be comin’ out of the oven when they’re baked (ooh hot)

They’ll be comin’ out of the oven

They’ll be comin’ out of the oven

They’ll be comin’ out of the oven when they’re baked (ooh hot)

Did you recognize “She’ll be comin’ round the mountain”? The song has a quite a long history and if you are interested in learning more about its origin, there’s a little history of it here. And some fresh baked cookies here:
Oh, they’ll smell oh so buttery while they bake (mmm, mmm) (ooh hot)
They’ll smell oh so buttery while they bake (mmm, mmm) (ooh hot)
They’ll smell oh so buttery
They’ll smell oh so buttery
They’ll smell oh so buttery while they bake (mmm, mmm) (ooh hot)
The reason that they’ll smell oh so buttery while they bake, is, of course, butter.

Lots and lots of butter.

Shortbread needs butter.

Shortbread without butter is like, well, shortbread without butter.

And what kind of world would that be to live in?

Here’s one of our best sellers – Salted Chocolate Chip – oh Yum!!! It’s made with organic fair trade chocolate, organic flour, organic sugar and plenty of Canadian butter. Then we dip it in more rich chocolate (organic and fair trade) and sprinkle it with a dash of Atlantic sea salt just before it sets.
Now of course, if you can’t have butter, which is sometimes the case, or if you don’t eat butter, there is no reason you shouldn’t get to enjoy a yummy Chocolate Chip Shortbread cookie from Sable Shortbread. So, for those of you who can’t or don’t eat butter, we do have some alternatives for you.

Yum! Our Plant based Chocolate Chip Shortbread is one of the choices made with organic, fair trade chocolate and organic flour and organic sugar and plant based fat.

Be sure to ask about our plant-based shortbread options if you need to limit your dairy intake.

Oh, they’ll taste oh so heavenly when they’re baked (uh, huh) (mmm, mmm) (ooh hot)
They’ll taste oh so heavenly when they’re baked (uh, huh) (mmm, mmm) (ooh hot)
They’ll taste oh so heavenly
They’ll taste oh so heavenly
They’ll taste oh so heavenly when they’re baked (uh, huh) (mmm, mmm) (ooh hot)

Heavenly, that’s a good way to describe the taste of a Sable Shortbread cookie. Other descriptions go from the divine to the sublime to downright cussing. “F*** that’s good”, always makes us chuckle.

But, we are most gratified when someone tells us that our shortbread brings back happy memories. So many of us remember shortbread made by a loving grandma or aunt or mom and if our shortbread takes you right back there, then we’re happy we could make you smile.

For me, shortbread takes me back to sweet moments with my Dad learning to bake and listening to him tell me about his Grandma, who taught him to bake.  Grandma Mabel, rhymes with Sable.

She had a huge kitchen with big bins of flour and sugar from which she scooped out her ingredients onto a big wooden counter, carefully making her pie crust from scratch using her hands to work in the shortening and then carefully and quickly mixing in the liquid to bind the dough together. She used her hands and a wooden spoon to make her shortbread.

Oh, they’ll taste so Canadian when they’re baked (sorry, eh) (uh, huh) (mmm, mmm) (ooh hot)
They’ll taste so Canadian when they’re baked (sorry, eh) (uh, huh) (mmm, mmm) (ooh hot)
They’ll taste so Canadian
They’ll taste so Canadian
Oh, they’ll taste so Canadian when they’re baked (sorry, eh) (uh, huh) (mmm, mmm) (ooh hot)
We make Canadian Shortbread. What makes it Canadian other than the fact that it’s made in Canada?

Three things – Canadian recipes, Canadian grown and milled organic flour, and a buttery, crunchy first bite that delivers caramel and butterscotch notes followed by a smooth and mellow buttery creaminess. So good!

Oh, you’ll be asking for more when they’re baked
(more please) (sorry, eh) (uh, huh) (mmm, mmm) (ooh hot)
You’ll be asking for more when they’re baked
(more please) (sorry, eh) (uh, huh) (mmm, mmm) (ooh hot)
You’ll be asking for more
You’ll be asking for more
Oh, you’ll be asking for more when they’re baked
(more please) (sorry, eh) (uh, huh) (mmm, mmm) (ooh hot)

And that’s the truth
– the Sable Truth.
