It’s been a while since we’ve shared news with you.  It’s hard to believe we are over 18 months into this pandemic and while we are hopeful that many restrictions will be lifted here soon, we can see what it looks like in other places where restrictions have been lifted.  And I can only ask, will it be the same for us?  Hopefully not.  Hopefully we have been cautious enough and waited long enough that any 4th wave activity will be able to be contained quickly and effectively.  We have been waiting for this next holiday season to arrive, with perhaps an amount of normalcy, to ensure that our little enterprise can start to flourish.

It has been a long road staying on top of this business and staying afloat these many months and there have been many loyal customers who have helped us get to here.  Would you believe we are about to celebrate Sable Shortbread’s 7th birthday?  What was once a booth at a farmer’s market has grown so much.

Of course, our timing was impeccable for sinking our heart, soul and financial lot into a bricks and mortar version of Sable Shortbread.  What was once a business that was supported and funded from our personal funds to get going has become our only source of revenue for our family. And I won’t kid, the pandemic has been rough because there wasn’t enough revenue from the business to pay us.  So, here we are, a dream, an empty wallet, but lots of hope and love that this is going to make it.  You’ve given us that hope.  You’ve shown us that love.  And now, as our birthday celebration, we want to return some of that love to you.

You’ve probably seen our teasers over the last few days that something new is coming.  Many of you have probably already guessed that our staff has been busy learning to make espresso drinks.  Which is appropriate since we have roots in Italy.  Did you know that Lorraine’s grandfather first arrived in Halifax in 1895?  So, in honour of our Nonno Josie, we’re firing up the boiler and making some espresso to go with our shortbread.  We’ll be offering up some special drinks for Fall and Christmas so watch our feeds for some yummy choices.  The espresso machine goes into action on October 1!

You’ve probably seen our bright and colourful patio chairs out front, hinting at the idea that you can enjoy a treat for here.  Maybe you’ve already popped by for a cookie and coffee or cold drink, or maybe even a shake or a smoothie and enjoyed a seat in front of our shop.  Our menu is growing to include lots of delicious drinks to go with your shortbread.  We are a great spot for a sweet treat.

As the weather turns cooler, though, those bright chairs and tables will move indoors.  Indoors to our indoor café area!!  That’s right.  Come on in.  Have a drink and a shortbread cookie and relax in our café area.  Lots of warming drinks will be coming your way with amazing fall flavour profiles.  We will have a drink menu to complement our cookies that will be like no other!!

And here’s our birthday treat to you:  Stop by anytime between September 25 and October 2 for our Seven Days for 7 Years Birthday Bash!  In honour of turning 7, we have Seven Days of $7 specials for you.  We hope to see you once, twice or maybe seven times between September 25 and October 2!!
