There were some favourite things that Great Grandma Mabel used to bake (one of them was vinegar pie – but more about that later). She made the best pies – Lemon Meringue Pie was Dad’s favourite.
There are some favourite things that we bake here at Sable Shortbread too. We added up all the cookies we sold last year and we figured out what flavours you like best.
Not surprisingly, Traditional Shortbread stands out at the top of the list of favourites. It’s followed by Vanilla, Chocolate and Lemon varieties.
Sometimes folks think of vanilla as a traditional shortbread flavour but did you know that shortbread at its most basic only has 3 ingredients? Butter, Sugar and Flour. When we add vanilla, the flavour is raised to a whole different level!!
Did you know vanilla comes from the only orchid that bears edible fruit among thousands of orchid species, thriving only in tropical climates within 20 latitudinal degrees of the equator? Now that’s exotic!
