Popping in to wish our Quebec family, friends and neighbours Bonne Fete Nationale.
Growing up it was referred to as St. Jean Baptiste Day since June 24 is the feast day of John the Baptist.
School always ended on June 23 in time for this official start of summer. On this first long weekend of summer we loaded up the car and went camping with one or two of my Dad’s brothers and their families.
Barefoot, sun kissed and free, the lot of us (and there were quite a few of us) would run and play, swim and fish, toast marshmallows and generally embrace the joy of summer adventures to come.
With the campsite all set up the dads would head back to work after the long weekend leaving kids and moms at the campsite for the week, until they returned the following weekend to take us all home.
Here’s wishing one and all a carefree, happy summer.

And that’s the truth
– the Sable Truth.
